Lobby MPs for 11 March 2009

Please make an appointment to lobby your MP now.
Call on your MP to:

* End the blockade on Gaza
* Suspend the EU-Israel Trade Agreement
* Bring Israeli war criminals to justice
* End the arms trade with Israel
* Urge the government to act to implement international law, including an immediate end to Israeli occupation

This lobby has been organised at short notice to call for urgent action by the British government to address the horrific humanitarian crisis that has been forced upon the people of Gaza.

Israel’s war on 1.5 million people in Gaza killed over 1300, including 431 children, and injured over 5300, including 1872 children. Gaza’s infrastructure has been destroyed, and hospitals and schools have been bombed, and the water and sewage system seriously damaged.

Hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated against Israel’s military assault on Gaza, and we want to see the British government take action to ensure an end to the denial of peace and justice for Palestinian people.

Join us on 11 March — tell your MP that the British government must act now!

Half the sponsorship money will be sent to the Free Gaza Campaign, which has successfully got medical help and observers through the Israeli blockade into Gaza, and the rest split between Southampton and National PSC.

Arrangement for the day:

Meet at the car park in Eastleigh Railway Station at 10.10.

We'll break at the pub at Shawford for Lunch, (bring your own lunch, or buy in the pub) and estimate that we'll arrive in Winchester at 3.00pm-ish.

Someone will be walking whatever the weather.

There's a train that leaves Southampton Central at 9.00am,
St Denys railway station at 9.38am,
and arrives at Eastleigh at 10.02am.

The car park at Eastleigh Station was free last year, and appears to be free still.

The Truth about Gaza

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign have put together a set of factsheets on the distortions being perpetuated about Gaza and the answers to these distortions.

For instance:

The first homemade Qassam missile was fired across the Israeli border in October 2001

the first fatality occurred in March 2007

Up to November 2008, 13 Israelis were killed by Qassam rockets

Between September 2000 and the end of November 2008,
nearly 5000 Palestinians were killed - more than half of them in Gaza

Upcoming Action on Boycotting Israeli Goods

Saturday 7th February 2009 11.00a.m.

outside Waitrose, Portswood Road
  • local action in nationwide Boycott Israeli Goods campaign, especially timed to coincide with influx of large quantities of flowers from Israel for Valentine's Day 14 February.
  • Join us outside Waitrose, Portswood Road, Portswood, Southampton at 11:00. The aim is to get shoppers to make informed choices & not buy products from Israel; and to persuade major shops not to stock products from Israel or those misleadingly labelled as West Bank. More effective with a good-sized crowd.
